A Feminist Agenda for the new UN Secretary-General for the first 100 days in office

UPDATE 11 January 2017:  Thank you to all the organizations that signed on to the feminist agenda petition. Mr. Antonio Guterres officially took office on 1 January 2017, and we are optimistic that he will take gender equality seriously. On 24 October 2016, we sent our petition to him and on 19 December 2016, we were one of 40 organizations to be invited to a civil society consultation meeting with the new Secretary-General and his transition team. The meeting went very well and Guterres' desire to want to hear and engage with civil society was clear.

During the meeting, we particularly emphasized the need to hold member states accountable under international law and asked him to add his voice even when member states use security, religion, sovereignty, culture and tradition to hold the status quo or even roll back on women's rights. Equality Now was excited to be part of this group and we look forward to many more similar consultations, as Guterres is keen to have more open dialogues with civil society.

We need your help. As the elections of the next UN Secretary- General is fast approaching, a group of women’s rights organizations have come together to shape what we think should be the feminist agenda of the Secretary- General. Please lend your organizational support by signing on to the petition below. Join us in our efforts and help us make these issues a priority for the Secretary-General in their first 100 days in office.
